The Sixth Annual

June 11 - 13, 2021

Come to Greencastle, Pennsylvania the weekend of June 11 - 13 for one, two or three days of cycling in the breathtakingly beautiful Cumberland Valley.  Here you will find a cyclist's paradise with a network of well-maintained, low-traffic roads laid down on a gently rolling landscape of farms, villages and small towns, framed by soft blue mountain backdrops in almost any direction you look.  Think this is an exaggeration?  Then check out this video.

There are rides for every level of ability and ambition.  Participants can choose from a selection of more than 20 rides, ranging in length from a short 23-mile loop over Franklin County's two covered bridges to a phenomenally scenic century into the heart of Pennsylvania's Appalachian ridge and valley region.  Most of the rides, including the century, can be characterized as gently rolling to rolling, with an occasional hill.

All rides start and end in the north (last) parking lot of Antrim Township Community Park on Grant Shook Road.  The park has water and restrooms.  Start times are 9:30 a.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Rides are leaderless and without SAG support, and participants must sign liability waivers at the start of each ride, just as they would if they were going on a normal BBC weekend ride.

Our original arrangement with the Greencastle Comfort Inn fell through as a result of factors neither they nor we could control, but a block of rooms has now been reserved at the I-81 Hampton Inn in Maugansville with a special group rate of $109 per night, plus tax, for a room with two queen-size beds or a king-size bed and queen-size sofa bed.  (To take advantage of this rate, you must contact the I-81 Hampton Inn directly at 240-420-1970 and tell them you’re with the Baltimore Bicycling Club.  Hotel reservation websites cannot give you this rate.)  Rooms will be held until May 21.  Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and free Wi-Fi, and a complimentary hot breakfast is included.

If you are unable to get a room at the Hampton Inn – or if you just want to save a few dollars – the

Super 8 on PA 16 just east of Exit 5 offers many of the same amenities, including a free continental breakfast, but has smaller rooms and lower rates.  And if you really want to save money, the Castle Motel (NOT the Castle Green Motel) on US 11 just north of town offers a CLEAN room with most of the amenities offered by the other two motels, minus the free breakfast, for around $30 a night.  Unfortunately, the Castle Motel has only eight units and is almost always booked up.  There are also plenty of motels just off of I-81 in Hagerstown and Chambersburg, as well as a couple of bed-and-breakfasts in Greencastle and nearby towns.
